Sarah Halimi’s murder – BBUK calls for justice after French court ruling

By In News, Statements On 21 April 2021

B’nai B’rith UK would like to express its dismay at the recent decision of France’s highest court not to bring to trial the murderer of Sarah Halimi. Halimi was killed in 2017 after being pushed out of her window by a neighbour, Kobili Traore, who had issued racist abuse towards the victim and who had been smoking marijuana at the time. In ruling that he lacked criminal responsibility due to drug taking, the Court has betrayed the family of one Jewish victim and caused deep anguish for the rest of the Jewish community. In a country which has been rocked by antisemitic crimes, this is a completely unacceptable and shocking outcome. We would welcome the decision to refer this matter to the European Court of Human Rights and hope that justice can be done
