On 29th January, B’nai B’rith UK hosted a joint event with the Romanian embassy at the Romanian Cultural Institute in Belgrave Square. The theme was ‘Remember to remember’, a commemoration of the Holocaust. There was a moving and informative exhibition highlighting the Elephant project, a memorial house to Jewish life in the town of Viseu de Sus, as well as the role played by Romanian diplomats in saving Jewish lives in the war. Speeches were given by the Romanian Ambassador, HE Dan Mihalache, Israel’s Ambassador HE Mark Regev and B’nai B’rith UK President Alan Miller, followed by a moving recital by Romanian violinist Alexander Balanescu. About 90 people were in attendance, including many BBUK members.
