Today, B’nai B’rith UK marks Holocaust Memorial Day with a solemn reflection on the 6 million innocent Jewish lives destroyed by the Nazis and their collaborationist allies. We must never forget the appalling suffering they faced and the wanton destruction of vibrant Jewish communities. We miss with sorrow the loss of so many descendants who would have done so much to enrich the world and improve our civilisation. We must never forget that the Holocaust was possible because of centuries of poisonous antisemitism, a legacy of hatred with murderous consequences. That is why we must continue to tackle this lethal prejudice today, together with every other form of racism and bigotry. We must always be a light in the darkness and a voice for humanity.
