B’nai B’rith UK, together with its public policy arm, the London Bureau, has been shocked by the killing of George Floyd at the hands of police in Minneapolis. As an organisation committed to human rights and the eradication of racial prejudice, we share the anguish and grief felt by black families in the United States and beyond as well as their current cry for justice. There must be a guarantee that such cruel acts will be punished swiftly and with the full force of the law. We wish to stand with all those who are protesting peacefully and lawfully while also condemning those who have chosen to attack buildings, including synagogues in the US. The message from George Floyd’s death is that there can be no place for hate in any civilised society and those who think otherwise will only disfigure his memory.
