Appeal to the government over Ukrainian VISAS
By BBUK In Advocacy, Statements, Ukraine On 9 March 2022
As the carnage continues in Ukraine, B’nai B’rith UK welcomes the government’s vigorous stand for the people of Ukraine. In particular, we welcome the commitment to provide humanitarian aid for Ukrainians who are seeking refuge in the UK. However, we believe it is alarming that, according to Home Office figures, only a tiny fraction of those who have applied for a UK visa have thus far been granted one. With a humanitarian crisis of this magnitude and with people desperate to be reunited with their loved ones, this is no time for red tape and bureaucratic complexity. We call on the government to review these processes urgently and to put in place fast track refugee arrangements. By doing so, the UK will stand on the right side of history and live up to its reputation for helping those in need.
